Good morning, readers!

Our friend Ben is couch-potatoing for awhile. He wants to learn about real news, fake news, kids' programming, "adult" programming, marketing, management, game shows, home-shopping, American cinema, and how the world laughs with us when we laugh. He's also updating his diary.

Ben has a lot to say, but sometimes it requires a trip to Colonial Williamsburg for Jas, Trevor, and Warren to interpret. So for the foreseeable future, we will be back to random blog observations from The Urban Blabbermouth and Vol-E, who are never at a loss for observations, even if Ben would read them and look at us askance over the tops of his bifocals.

When Ben returns from his fact-finding mission, I'll post the announcement in big letters with an eye-catching graphic.

It's funny how you can learn new things. About 20 years ago in Northwest Atlanta, an apartment building burned flat. It was December, and the area was experiencing a cold snap. One man was especially cold because he hadn't paid his power bill and his heat was shut off. He had one heat source: a barbecue grill that sat outside on his balcony. He dragged it into the living room, tossed in half a bag of charcoal briquettes, and lit it. He was reasonably warm and comfortable for part of the night.  But then something happened. Perhaps the man got too close to the grill and tripped, or he kicked it in his sleep, or maybe a dog ran through the room too fast. Regardless, what happened was that the grill turned over.                           Important announcement to my faithful readers (all four of them): I'm employed again. My last gig was, shall we say, seasonal employment with a company that lots of people get packages from. That was January and since then I've been living on Social Security. There used to be two Social Security recipients in the house, but now there's just me, so extra income was needed. I had a pretty good idea of the type of work I wanted to do, and as of tomorrow, I'll be working for, well, let's call it a big-box store. This is pretty exciting. So, right after I finished the nuts & bolts part of the interview, where they get my consent to run a background check, etc., the man behind the desk said "Okay, so, if you want, we start orientation tomorrow at, oh, let's say 4:00 p.m. That work for you?" Um...yeah... I mean, you tell me, okay dude? Or should I test this and see if Orientation Dude feels like waiting for me to stroll in at 7:0

There is controversy about the name of the Washington Redskins, an NFL American football team.  American Indians, who are considered to be red in skin color, are opposed to the name of the team.  They feel that it is demeaning.  I cannot speak for American Indians but I do support their right to chose how they are represented in the world. So, the Washington football team will have to change their name. They are dragging their feet about this. They have temporarily chosen The Washington Football Team as a new name. Very unimaginative.   The Washington Football Team should quickly announce a name change as that will force all their fans to buy new sports stuff with the new name. Money, money, and more money for the team.
