The Force strikes again

Antonia Potter, the Wand Duel champion of the Wizards, and Donovan McGreggor, the Jedi Knight champion, bowed to each other in the battle arena. They were the finalists in the Galactic Protection Forces Psi Combat Championships.

The Psi Combat Championship was a two rule contest - only extra-powered humans of the Galactic Protection Forces were allowed and Do Not Kill Your Opponent. Contestants interpreted the Do Not Kill rule to permit near lethal wounding with the unwritten proviso that the wound should not hamper the combatant's future military career.

Antonia stood at attention, wand in hand and Donovan in en garde pose, light saber glowing and ready.

The en garde pose inspired Antonia to commence the combat with a saber attack. She whispered Lux Gladio Lumina and a blade of green light grew from the end of her wand.

Donovan leaped into the air at her. Antonia twirled to the right to parry. Thrust-parry-twirl, thrust-parry-twirl. With each twirl, Antonia stepped backwards, losing ground, approaching the edge of the arena.

Woop, zang, bang, wand and light saber burst into sparks on impact.
Donovan's blade flew in an arc straight to Antonia's shoulder and quickly changed directions moving toward her torso. Antonia conjured a force field in front of her torso to block the blade.

A thrilling moment - Magic versus The Force.

Antonia teleported to the opposite side of the arena behind Donovan and shouted, Stupefy! Donovan reached behind his back with his light saber and blocked the spell. The spell ricocheted into the audience stunning the twenty or so fans who were too slow to put up a defensive block.

A good reason for the No Kill rule.

Donovan turned, smirked, reached out with his hand, levitating Antonia. Twisting his wrist, he flipped her on her head. 

Upside down, Antonia scrunched her eyes, glaring at Donovan.

Still on her head, Antonia flew across the arena towards Donovan and re-engaging him in the light saber duel, woop, zang, bang, driving him backwards.

The audience roared their approval.

A memory flashed into Antonia - last evening, her home, she and Donovan, anther sixty-nine position.  She shook her head, pushing out the memory.  Too late.

Donovan's light saber, swinging low, through her defense, smite her on her head. Down she went for the ten-count.

Donovan McGreggor was the Galactic Protection Forces Psi Combat Champion.

It's funny how you can learn new things. About 20 years ago in Northwest Atlanta, an apartment building burned flat. It was December, and the area was experiencing a cold snap. One man was especially cold because he hadn't paid his power bill and his heat was shut off. He had one heat source: a barbecue grill that sat outside on his balcony. He dragged it into the living room, tossed in half a bag of charcoal briquettes, and lit it. He was reasonably warm and comfortable for part of the night.  But then something happened. Perhaps the man got too close to the grill and tripped, or he kicked it in his sleep, or maybe a dog ran through the room too fast. Regardless, what happened was that the grill turned over. You sure 'bout that?

                          Important announcement to my faithful readers (all four of them): I'm employed again. My last gig was, shall we say, seasonal employment with a company that lots of people get packages from. That was January and since then I've been living on Social Security. There used to be two Social Security recipients in the house, but now there's just me, so extra income was needed. I had a pretty good idea of the type of work I wanted to do, and as of tomorrow, I'll be working for, well, let's call it a big-box store. This is pretty exciting. So, right after I finished the nuts & bolts part of the interview, where they get my consent to run a background check, etc., the man behind the desk said "Okay, so, if you want, we start orientation tomorrow at, oh, let's say 4:00 p.m. That work for you?" Um...yeah... I mean, you tell me, okay dude? Or should I test this and see if Orientation Dude feels like waiting for me to stroll in at 7:0

There is controversy about the name of the Washington Redskins, an NFL American football team.  American Indians, who are considered to be red in skin color, are opposed to the name of the team.  They feel that it is demeaning.  I cannot speak for American Indians but I do support their right to chose how they are represented in the world. So, the Washington football team will have to change their name. They are dragging their feet about this. They have temporarily chosen The Washington Football Team as a new name. Very unimaginative.   The Washington Football Team should quickly announce a name change as that will force all their fans to buy new sports stuff with the new name. Money, money, and more money for the team.
